How to treat body odour

A person who is good looking, smart and confident won’t amount much if his presence is felt in inappropriate ways. Here I am talking about body odour. Body odour socially ostracise you and even deny you your rightful position. It is more noticeable in crowded places likes railways compartments, theatres, malls and hence should not be ignored. It is normal if people have mild body odour and the problem only crops up if the smell gets too offensive.
Sweat is a salty liquid that oozes out of the pores in our skin. There are two types of glands that produce sweat, the “eccrine gland and the apocrine gland”. Everybody sweats as it helps the body mechanism to cool itself down. Our sweat has no odour of its own and it smells bad only after bacteria acts on the sweat after reaching the skin surface.
There are different kinds of problem responsible for bad body odour.
Not having proper bath or using clean clothes. If it is not washed off regularly, it provides a breeding ground for bacteria. It can be prevented by cleaning underarms, groin and feet which are the sweat producing areas in the body containing sweat producing glands. One should wash these areas at least two to three times in a day. People who sweat more than normal should take extra care about preventing body odour. They should use antibacterial soap followed by a deodorant once in a day. Use a good brush while bathing and brush in a circular movement.
Extra attention needs to be paid to the area like armpits which are more prone to body odour.
Always wear washed clothes and not used ones without washing them as body odour gets transfer on to the clothes you wear.
Wash your clothes in hot water and soap and dry them in strong sunlight.
Make your diet less spicy and drink lot of water to get rid of this problem and avoid pungent diet and excessive alcohol.
If you have skin allergy problem, eczema or psoriasis, then it is possible that you have a skin infection, probably fungal which is contributing to the problem.
Obesity is also responsible for body odour.
Wear cotton clothes instead of synthetic fabrics like polyester as it trap sweat and makes a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Wear cotton undergarments to allow the skin to breathe.
Avoid tight fitting clothes and shoes as they also contribute to excess perspiration and body odour.
Curb your caffeine intake as it can stimulate the autonomic nervous system which regulates sweating. Have only two cups daily.
Use deodorant that contains zirconium or aluminium chlorohydrate.

Home remedies
Add a tablespoon of honey to tepid water fro the final rinse, after your bath, to keep body odour in check.
Add a teaspoon of alum to your bath water to make you smell fresh all the day.
Add a cup full of vinegar or camphor oil to your bath water especially in summer.
Baking soda also helps to remove body odour. Use a powder puff to apply the powder.
Boil mint leaves and add it to your bath water.
